Agenda
Computer Graphics
There was a grading scheme change for last semesters Computer Graphics lecture. People feared that some students got a worse grade, however the chair assured us that this is not the case and everybody got at least the same grade if they did not improve.
Ausfahrerlaubnis
The AStA has two parking allowances for elected student council members. For us this is useful for people who often use their car to come here. For this semester, these are Lizzie and Max, so we want to give them the allowance.
Football Public Screening
This year there will be Football (Fußball) European Cup in Germany.
We want to host a public screening of some of the games along with some drinks. It is legal as long as we do not ask for entry. The department would also be fine with it.
There are some concerns about football fans ill-behaving, however, we think this is probably not a problem, it is not expected for too many people attend. Furthermore the intersection between problematic fans and students is small.
Quiz Night
The next Quiz Night will take place May 11th, at the Waldhaus dormitory.
Social Media
We got feedback that people cannot follow our social media and proposed to use Mastodon as additional social media channel.
We think that this is lots of effort, as it induces designing graphics extra for that, and not too many people use Mastodon. We also advertise our social events etc. on the website, Discord and our mailing list. So there are many alternatives.
Day of the Open Door
Anton gave a short update on the planning status for the day of the open door.
We have filled the form for entry, and thus have become part of the university planning. Next we will need to find enough people to make shifts that day.
Students for one Day
The Central Study Coordination asked us about whether we could be part of the "Students-for -a-day"-Initiative, where high-school students can visit university for a day.
They will follow a mentor, who will go to lectures etc. with them. There are some specific requests for the date already. Jenny and Lizzie volunteered to do that.
Anton will connect them to each other. However we need to emphasise to the high-school students that lectures will be in English, so they need to bring some pretty good language skills.
Library Theses
The library has a new project where you can send in an additional copy of your thesis which then will be published there. There will no be additional cost for you, you just need to print another copy and sign a form by the library that authorizes the library to distribute your thesis.
If you want, the library can also print it for you. Alex will put the information onto our website. For the thesis to be publicly available, you actually need to pass it. You can also do this if you just finished your thesis recently, and if you are studying Maths or Computational Linguistics.
Examination Office Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics students could not send in their Theses digitally (on the cloud), because sometimes they have too much data. The alternative was to submit it via CD, which is kind of out of date. Many people do not even have CD-drive anymore and thus cannot burn them.
After some discussions with the Bioinformatics you now can lend a CD-burner at the bioinformatics examination office for a small fee.
In general the lifetime of CDs is not so high, and the data needs to be stored for longer than that.
Unfortunately there are no alternatives due to e.g. financial problems.
Breakfast
The Breakfast today went pretty well, many people attended. Some people complained about the soup being chunky. This time the cheese and meat slices were empty very quickly, although we planned with the same amount.
We already plan to host another breakfast in about a month, however Lukas cannot be main organiser this time. Felix and Daniel have volunteered.
In the future we think about donating leftovers to charity like before Covid, however we don't think that it is a significant amount, that it warrants the extra effort.
