Agenda
Summer BBQ
Our Summer BBQ will take place next week Thursday. Planning is going well so far. We announced there would be cake sponsored by FdSI, however we need to clarify some things about that. There is a doodle for planning shifts. As usual, we want to offer salads, however (as usual) there are only few volunteers. If you bring a salad, you will get a token for some free food and drinks. Same holds true for volunteers. If you want to help, contact Lukas, or watch out for an announcement on our Discord Server.
Abi-Was-Dann Fair
There is a career-fair for Abiturienten (people who got their a-levels this year) that will take place in early July, on Tuesday, the 8th and Wednesday, the 9th. We were asked to send people there for representing the university and advertising the computer science. For Wednesday nobody of us has time, however Lizzie and Mona volunteer for the Tuesday.
Plagiarism
We have the subjective feeling that there are more plagiarism cases currently. Firstly, we want to clarify that plagiarism is a bad thing and should be taken seriously. Secondly, a plagiarism case is a lot of additional time investure for us, the professors, and of course the affected students.
We are quite unsure why this happens, we want to focus more on how we can prevent students from making this mistake. We think about making a post on social media and our website. A good way is to point out what can happen in the worst case. Additionally we can send out mails to all students and ask the professors to mention plagiarism in their introductory lectures (maybe with statistics). We would refrain from mentioning this in the opening ceremony, because probably the people attending there are aware of the problems with plagiarism.
All efforts are in vain though if people are not trying to get any knowledge.
Cryptography
We got complaints about the cryptography mid-term exam. Apparently, the exercise sheets did not prepare students for the exam. We have access to the exam and will crosscheck it with the exercise sheets.
We had this discussion last year already, where there were multiple organisational issues. There were a few improvements from that, but a lot that is still to be gained. We will discuss this again after we have checked the mid-term.
