Agenda
International Potluck
Daniel reminds us that last week we drifted away in some discussion to host an international potluck. For those unfamiliar with the concept: It's basically a big picnic where everyone brings some of their favourite food.
Daniels idea would be to host this event at the beginning of the next year, as we already have a lot of events in December. He proposes the first or second lecture week of the new year.
Ted shares that he recently organized a potluck and raises concerns that everyone needs to bring a lot of food. However, it should be sufficient if everyone brings a little bit and then it distributes better. It is not intended that everyone brings enough for every other person.
Generally the idea was well received. Daniel will take care of any further planning actions. If you want to help him, reach out to him.
Election Event
We usually have elections once a year. Daniel proposes to host a pre-registration (Before people can register to be elected) event to inform people about what we actually do as the Students' Council. One idea was to have an open day in our rooms where we have people assigned to be here all day and answer questions.
There was also a notion to do this as an extension to the Stammtisch. Alex adds that it would be beneficial to have it on the day of a Stammtisch, as then we have the open door the whole day, then a meeting people could attend and then a nice get-together.
We could do this at the time were people can already register as candidates.
Another idea was to set up a Q&A or an AmA (Ask me Anything) on Discord or other social media in case people have questions about students council work.
Nikofete
Lukas gives a small update of the current planning status of the Nikofete. Planning is going quite well and everything is on order. We tested waffle irons and decided to throw one out, as the non-stick is not working anymore. We however bought a new waffle iron that also doubles as a sandwich maker.
Manuel wants Lukas to acknowledge that the Paw Patrol Waffle Iron works surprisingly well. He also suggests that he will test out a vegan waffle recipe. In case it is good, we might use that to also offer a vegan option. Manuel will supply his Kitchen Aid for dough making again. There was some discussion about rum being in the vegan recipe.
Ferdinand suggests that last year we had an issue that people could not make Crepe properly. Maybe we should have a workshop about how to make Crepe.
Manuel is willing to advertise the Nikofete as Santa Clause in some lectures. He asks whether anyone has a Santa costume he could borrow. He will ask Nils.
Lukas also provides some details on the deposit collection boxes that we will set up at the entrances to the buildings throughout the month of December.
Hot-Dogs
Lukas gives an update about the Hot Dogs distribution tomorrow.
Preparations will start at around 10AM and Hot-Dog distribution at around 11AM.
We will have pork and vegan hot-dogs available.
FSR Retreat
Lukas reminds everyone that we still want to have the FSR Retreat, a small workshop like event with different topics. He sent around a poll for potential dates in december. He ask all interested people to fill it out.
Also people can suggest topics in the AK plan.
Quiz Night
We will have a Quiz Night next week on Tuesday (26.11.2024) in the Heimbar of Wohnheim E starting at 08PM.
He invites everyone to join. He might need some helping hands around 7PM for setup. Any help is appreciated.
Torch Run
Prof. Hack got a call from the University of Munster. Traditionally we organise a torch run in honor of such professors, to maybe make them more likely to stay at UdS.
Manuel suggests to have a torch run for him as it usually is tradition. He has already talked to FdSI for their support which they agreed to. We are discussing options when we can do that. Manuel is willing to organize it, but asks for at least one more person to help him. He will ask Kevin.
Daniel suggests to buy a small handheld fire extinguisher as the last time the big ones were not good to move around.
In addition we will have mulled wine and Kinderpunch.
SIC Cluster Access
As some may know, there is a SIC Computing cluster that one can ask to get access.
Manuel reported that some students who currently write their thesis at the CISPA have been revoked access to this cluster. The reason being is that they should use the CISPA resources.
Ferdinand reports that to his knowledge, the CISPA resources are stronger than the SIC cluster and at least he got access during his thesis to.
Additionally he raises the point that it might be an organizational issue. To his knowledge, the SIC cluster is a shared resource of the chairs at UdS which might be why CISPA has no access.
Alex suggests to put that we maybe discuss it at the Deans Lunch. However we are unsure whether the people present will have knowledge about that.
In addition we will contact the SIC IT Team to gain more information.
SE Lab Talk
As previously discussed, the SE Chair suggested a joint meeting between the chair, some faculty representatives and the Dean of Studies. This meeting will be next week on Monday. For this meeting they asked to have one more experienced council member and one that will maybe stay for a while longer for a better knowledge transfer.
Manuel suggested to be the more experienced student. He first thought of Max for that, but he does not have time on that date. Another of Manuels' suggestions for this position was Jan-Philipp, as he is in the council a lot and likely to stay a while. He already confirmed that he has time.
We vote on whether we send Manuel and Jan-Philipp to this meeting:
- In favour: 7
- Abstaining: 1
- Against: 0
Christmas Market
We wanted to visit the Strasbourg Christmas Market.
Manuel reports that there were some hiccups in the communication between Manuel and the FIS. In the end, the FIS agreed conditionally as long as enough people signed up until November 30th.
We opened the registration yesterday afternoon and the available slots were sold out in three hours, which was a welcome surprise. There are still some tickets blocked for the romanistik students.
Currently we also have 20 persons on the waiting list. Therefore there is a notion to maybe to ask if there is a possibility to order a second bus.
However there currently is some uncertainty whether this is feasible. Alex raised some concerns on whether people will all pay in time. Manuel reports that from experience for the LAN Party people pay in time.
Daniel supports the second bus as it makes more sense to make additional posters then. Additionally we have not used all our advertising options fully.
There is a suggestion to wait until the first payment deadline to see if people go through with their payment.
Generally most people supported to request a second bus if we get enough reservations.
The procedure is as follows:
- Manuel will ask Baron for an offer on a second bus
- We will check until Monday how many people paid
- We will continue advertising to increase the waiting list
- Based on that we and the FIS will decide how to continue
LAN Party
The LAN Party will take place on this Saturday in the library. People can still register if they want to take part.
Manuel and the IT team put in a lot of work to organize this and we are thankful for that.
Deans Lunch
There will be a Deans Lunch next week for all Students' Council Members.
In this meeting, we will address current issues we see at the university and open questions to the faculty.
Alex asked all council members to be there. Additionally he asks people to put topics that you like to discuss into the HedgeDoc we have for this.
There was a discussion whether we want to invite Prof. Martina Maggio as the former Dean of Studies as well, especially for the SE-Lab topic to provide some insights.
We voted on whether we want to invite Prof. Maggio:
In Favor: 4
Against: 0
Abstaining: 3
Manuel will contact her.
