Agenda
Diverse Option for PhD
---- INTRO ------
According to the current documents students can only decide between a male version or a female version for their PhD. However, this might be an issue for diverse students.
---- DISCUSSION ------
German laws need to be checked, it could also be that it even more also needs to be added by law.
The university should be contacted to figure out how to introduce a third (i.e. diverse) option.
We voted if the responsible people should be contacted to add an option for gender diverse students:
Yes: 8, unanimous
No: 0
Abstain: 0
---- CONCLUSION ------
The responsible people will be contacted to add an option for gender diverse students.
If afterwards still needed, this topic will be brought up to the deans lunch.
Support letter for AWS
---- INTRO ------
We got contacted by a student wanting to set up an AWS Cloud Club Captain program (Amazon) and therefore needing a formal faculty approvement.
---- DISCUSSION ------
A student initiative is nice and strongly encouraged. However this specific inquiry is connected to a (big) company.
In the past we already voted against a strong student council involvement in the google developer student club. In that instance we agreed to only hang up their posters on our pin board like other companies.
Additionally the right contact for this is the CS faculty and not the CS students council, the person contacting us was already prior to this meeting informed about this.
The general vibe of the current CS student council is to not get involved with companies on this level, so we decided to do nothing.
---- CONCLUSION ------
We decided to do nothing, since we do not want to integrate companies on this level.
Internal Messenger Service
---- INFO ------
The vote on our internal messenger is concluded:
Signal won.
Switch will be on October 1st.
Absolventenfeier
---- INFO ------
FIS (Freundeskreis der Fachschaft Informatik, Saarbrücken) still needs helpers for the bachelor ceremony event and is looking for volunteers. If you are interested, feel free to contact us. We are happy for any help :)
The event is on 5th of December.
Concurrent Programming
---- INTRO ------
Prof. Hermanns agreed to meet with us to talk about the shredding of one exam. This is an update after that meeting.
(This is a follow up of this meeting:
https://cs.fs.uni-saarland.de/uber-uns/protokolle/?prot_id=20250811)
---- DISCUSSION ------
We had a meeting with Prof. Holger Hermanns and Felix Freiberger. They confirmed that yes, this was staged and also planned in advance.
Some time after the exam a Thunis theater event poster was printed and put up. The poster shows an exam being shredded in the format of the Banksy auction. The poster also shows icons besides the Thunis logo like the characteristic Prof. Hermanns glasses and the logo of the chair. The date given on the poster for the event was the date of the exam. The intention was to clarify that the shredding was not real.
We were told, they thought it would get a good laugh out of the students since they expected it to be perceived too extreme to be real. It was however not immediate stated afterwards in the exam that this was a stunt. Also not on the same day, and the days after the exam, where rumors started to spread and then reach us, leading to the discussion in the meeting stated above. We were officially informed that this was a stunt during the meeting we had with Prof. Hermanns afterwards.
The uniform reaction of the CS students' council is still, that a stunt like this should not be done during (or in this case immediate after the exam before students were allowed to leave the room) an official exam, with students present in an already stressful setting, adding even more anxiety. Prof. Hermanns asked us in the meeting if stunts (for laughs) should not be done again, where we had the stance that stunts (for laughs) are alright, if they are done in a more sensible way then it was done in this instance.
---- CONCLUSION ------
The shredding was a questionable art stunt, that was insensibly performed.
Bachelor+ Mint Room
---- INTRO ------
The Bachelor+ MINT council now has a room, we might be able to lend or give them things we don't need until they are settled in.
---- DISCUSSION ------
Since it is hard to decide which things are needed by one person alone, we will contact one person from the Bachelor+ MINT council and go through our stuff. The things that they might need will there be listed and then in an meeting afterwards every CS students' council member has a chance to veto an item if it is still needed.
---- CONCLUSION ------
Bachelor+ MINT council will be contacted.
Chess tournament
---- INTRO ------
Chess seems to be popular right now, so why not do an event?
---- DISCUSSION ------
People from Hochschulsport are already contacted and they are excited about it and would lend equipment, while chess clocks will still need to be organized (rented from a local chess club).
A date for this event still needs to be found.
The tournament is planned to be a 3-h long, round robin.
There will be needed sign ups before the event (needed for planning), but the event will be for free.
We might sell drinks and there might be free snacks, still needs to be planned with FIS (money wise).
The vibe during the meeting was to support this and make it an official FSR event.
---- CONCLUSION ------
Will be made an official FSR event and planned further.
