Agenda

Campus Day for Pupils

Intro:
On April 21st there will be another Campus Day for pupils here at university. This will also include a booth for the CS department as always and we have been asked if we have people that are willing to be present at that booth.

Discussion:
There will presumably be several shifts over the course of the day that we can distribute. It would be nice to have something interesting for the pupils to look at again, like in the past (e.g. TicTacToe).

Conclusion:
There are some members that are interested in helping out. We will reach out to the respective people.

AI Core Lecture

Intro:
There were complaints about the AI core lecture's final exam, mainly with regard to a lack of time to answer everything. (e.g. due to single exercise questions spanning an entire page).

Discussion:
Compared to the previous iteration of this lecture, the failure rate is apparently considerably higher.
It may make sense to let the students reach out to the lecturer first. But there was a post in the lecture's forum about this topic, which several people seemed to agree with. However, this post was made before the results of the exam were published, so the current state of the situation is unclear.

Conclusion:
We will reach out to the lecturer and see if that will have any impact.

StEP Speakers

Intro:
The StEP will be happening on March 31st and April 1st and we need to distribute certain talks to be held by different members during the event. They should not be exclusively distributed among the respective Task Force but rather across everyone.

Discussion:
Talks to distribute:

Welcome (Greet people)
Present the Students’ Council
Gastronomy (Present availability for food here)
Plagiarism
Internet on Campus (Eduroam)
Bureaucracy
Printer
Welcome to Saarbrücken (Short intro about SB and what one can do here)

Note: The StEP will collide with the Prog 2 Pre-Course but this cannot be avoided. In terms of member availability, we will have to work around this.
Apart from this, the presentations for the respective talks are already prepared and can be reused (they may just have to be updated).

Conclusion:
We distributed some of the talks and will try to do the rest outside of meetings.

FIS-Mitgliederversammlung

The FIS-Mitgliederversammlung will take place on March 11th at 5pm. Students' Council members are encouraged to join the meeting (there will be free pizza). The meeting will be mostly if not exclusively in German.

NNTI Inspection

Intro: Complaint about no inspection being offered upfront. Students have to ask for it themselves (it's their right).

Discussion: Contact lecturer or examination board? (If there's even more lectures then Dean of Studies) What if we get more complaints? There might be an inspection after some ongoing project is done.

Conclusion: Single tickets are fine for now. Just let people talk to lecturer to get an inspection.

CP for past members

Past members get CP for Students' Council work. We need to vote on this and hence have done so for members for which this has not been done yet.

Request for Help during GCB

Intro:
We have helped the "Next" in the past which has been beneficial for us. However, the cooperation ended after a new deal was not considered good for us anymore.
This was also a loss of income though and hence, helping at the GCB could be a new source of income.

We would essentially be expected to do "catering" during a Bioinformatics Conference on September 22nd (e.g. hand out food, have a BBQ). They have a budget planned for this and it would be quite a big event (250 - 300 people), so that would most likely require a lot of work from our side.

Discussion:
We would like to know more about the exact budget and also what kind of organisational work would be required from us. It would also be helpful to know, how many people they expect would have to help during this conference.
There would presumably be no cashier work, as things are handed out for free to the attending people.
It could also be of interest to talk to the Math council about this in the future.

This should secure our funding for at least this year and possibly even beyond that.

Conclusion:
There is a general interest in the council for this at the moment. The people responsible for the event will be informed of this and they should eventually provide us with more information then.

Meeting Planning Doc

Intro:
The Doc in which we collect our meeting topics has changed its purpose over time. It was brought up to talk about the future of how we should structure the Doc.

Discussion:
The structure of the Doc is explained within the Doc itself and has purposefully been made quite open in the past.

Conclusion: For now, it seems like the majority of people are happy with the structure of the Doc. If necessary, this topic will be brought up again in the future.

Writing Center Support

Intro:
The Writing Center has reached out to us and asked if we would be willing to formally support their work by signing a document for them.

Discussion:
Present members think that their work is quite important and in general seemed to be willing to this.

Conclusion:
We will get more opinions on this from members that could not be present and will then respond the Writing Center accordingly.
