Improve Student Working Rooms

JP opened the discussion by proposing a review of the utilisation of rooms 1.03 and 1.04, the online working spaces, and other general work areas. It was noted that users are increasingly gravitating toward these specific areas — often bringing chairs from the hallway - likely due to the air conditioning. This results in the silent work room hosting people beyond its designed capacity. It was noted that the remote working place remains underutilised. It was noted that demand for dedicated online meeting spaces has significantly decreased. To address this, JP proposed removing the online working spaces, as they are already frequently misused as standard workstations, and converting them into a new silent working room. The online meeting room would move to the current silent working room.

The main discussion point was whether this was deemed useful. While it was noted that the library offers a lot of silent working spaces, it seems that they can not fulfil the demand. This was especially true during the last heatwave, as these workspaces heated up significantly.

It was expressed concern that there might not be sufficient space for group work following the proposed changes. On the other hand, there are already numerous spaces for that in the form of rooms 1.03 through 1.06, as well as numerous tables in the hallway that are available for group activities. But the Student Coordination plans to reduce the number of workspaces in the hallway to minimise noise levels.

Regarding the layout, it was noted that changing table arrangements (e.g., moving from rows to group formations) could compromise the quiet environment of the silent rooms.

Permission for Thought Protocol Campaign

Moritz stated his intentions of continuing his campaign to collect thought protocols and wishes to have an official backing from the students council for this time.

It was noted that thought protocols can be taken down if the lecturer wishes so.
