Dear first semesters,

Only about two weeks left until lectures begin.

Whether you are new to university, new to this university, or new to your degree program, you are bound to have a few burning questions.

To answer these questions and welcome you to the university, we are organizing the Student Orientation Phase (StEP) for students of computer science and related subjects on Tuesday and Wednesday in the week before lectures begin.
The first meeting will take place on March 31, 2026, at 9:00 am in Lecture Hall I in building E2 5.

At the StEP you will learn everything you need to know about your studies, as well as your new university, its procedures and organizations, how to get around in Saarbrücken and – if you just arrived from abroad – some quick-start tips for Germany.

Among other things, we will show you how to find your thesis topic, how you can plan your schedule, how far your semester ticket is valid, and what else our campus has to offer.

We will not only prepare you for your everyday life as a student, but also show you how to navigate through the jungle of institutions and facilities on campus. Starting with examination offices, the language center, the AStA, gastronomy and also possibilities to do sports, up to institutes like the International Students Centre Saar.

We hope to answer all your questions about your studies and to help you to make the start into your studies as smooth as possible. You should plan to attend the presentations from 9 am to 4 pm.

But it’s not over after 4 pm! We have planned more events for you, such as a game night, a campus tour and a city tour. This will give you the opportunity to get to know each other, your surroundings and student culture.
