Agenda

New Professors

Today we were joined by Prof. Ilg, who specialises on 3D-computer vision, which is a currently growing topic in CS. We presented what the students council does, which events we organise, and what we provide to the students.
He offered a Seminar already last Semester, and will also offer another seminar next semester. There is also a lecture in planning which is a collaboration between lots of different professors.
We discussed about how to motivate people for students for thesis. Prof. Ilg suggested a thesis mailing list so students know what topics are currently available. We have already planning for improving thesis acquisition, but that is only in the starting phase, so we are happy about the ideas and input we got today.
Prof. Ilg asked us how we like lectures to be organised. For that it is important that the modalities are clear (e.g. date of exams) and a well-structured course website (CMS).

Lecture Feedback

A council member had the idea to visit randomly selected lectures after the lecture period, to ask them about feedback of how their lecture went. This might be a good idea to find overarching issues of university organisation and lecturing. Anton V. will take care that this idea does not get forgotten.

Busy Beaver

We got the QUALIS evaluations, which means we can vote on the Busy-Beaver. We usually award three busy beavers, one for for core & advanced lectures, one for seminars and one for the base lectures. The Busy Beaver awards lecturers who did a great job on their lectures.

We analysed the data and decided for the winners.

Semester Opening Ceremony

Natalia asked us whether we can help set up and during the Opening Ceremony as usual. This time however this coincides with the StEP. This means we do not have many people available, but at least a few people can make the time.

Fachschaftseuro

There still is debate on how to use the FS-euro. We will schedule a meeting for next Monday at the usual time.

Programming Lectures

We have gotten an answer from the dean of studies regarding our proposal for Programming Lectures. She says that she thinks that C++ is not that popular anymore. We will answer her that a lot of courses actually use C++ (with a list). However we will make again cleear

Breakfast

The breakfast will take place at 25th of April. As there is Ramadan before we decided to push it back one week.

Summer BBQ

We plan to have the Summer BBQ on 06th of July. If nobody has objections, we will inform the department about the date.

NEXT

Nils gave us an update on the planning status of the NEXT. People will get a shirt for helping. There are a lot of companies that signed up already. Some of the Companies will be placed at Audimax. We are already thinking about how we place people there, but we will make it work.

FIS-meeting

There is a FIS-meeting is today at 19:00 c.t. It takes place in Room 407. Everybody is obligated to be there.

International Students

As there is Ramadan currently, the muslimic students at university have organised rooms to celebrate Iftar (eating after sundown). We think that it is really nice that the university supports that, so we want to advertise this on our website more.

KIF

Mona and Rafay will be going to the KIF. Clemens and Julian will be funding their travels by themselves somehow.

MfCS1 repetitorium

The repetitorium took place last week. The first day there were 78 people present. Over the duration the number decreased by a not-insignificant amount. We thank the tutors a lot for their help, and especially Simon for organising the whole event. In general it was a success and we will offer it again in the future. We will try to get some statistics about the numerical success.
