Agenda
New Professors
In todays meeting we were joined by Prof. Alexey Gurevich, who joined the faculty in July 2022. He did his BSc and MSc in Software Engineering and his PhD in Bioinformatics. His research focuses on efficient algorithms and software in Bioinformatics. He currently offers lots of seminars for Bioinformatic students, but next semester he will offer a course for C++ in use of Bioinformatics. We introduced the student council and what we offer to students and to professors. We also talked about the upcoming social events like the Summer BBQ that will take place on 06th of July. We discussed a little about course organisation (CMS) and mailing lists.
Board Games
With the FS-euro now being available, we want to offer more english board games for game nights. As there are many international students attending the game nights, they previously were somewhat limited. People brought up that FIS could be an alternative source of money. We voten on whom should provide the money: AStA (2 in favour), FIS (5). The student council voted on whether in general we want to ask about getting more board games (9 in favour, 0 abstaining, 0 against).
Breakfast
Yesterday the breakfast took place, there were less people attending than last time, probably because of less agressive advertisement and not being StEP. We had enough food for a longer time than previously. The Dal we offered was really well received, although people with weak taste buds complained it being too spicy. The next breakfast will take place fridays as that fits better to the lecture and organisers schedules. For the next time we have some plans for improving the preparation by ordering the groceries immediately from Globus. We thank all helpers and voluntary members for helping out the event and making it go smoothly.
Garbage
There is lots of leftover garbage and paper making the back of the seminar room rather unusable. This is correlated to the room reordering and the winter party but not causation. In general the entire situation is caused by laziness. There was a big discussion about the Schwenkers storage location.
Events
There were very few student council members that helped out during the last Breakfast. Some people could not be present at all while others took really long shifts that day. It only could go so smooth because we had so many voluntary helpers. There were complaints about that this is not acceptable as social events just cannot take place anymore if no helping people can be found. On the other hand, if people have other obligations with higher priority this cannot be changed, which is totally okay in indiviudal cases. In general the manpower problem can be alleviated if the event gets doodled beforehand.
Banner
It would be nice to have an additional banner to hang up during social events so they look nicer. At the same time we can promote our socials. We voted on that manner (10 in favour, 0 against, 1 abstaining). Daniel offered to do
Shirts
The fs-shirts are currently in the making. There will be an update about this in two weeks. We want to get some additional shirts without names to lend out to people helping out.
Photo
Each student council did a council photo. We will make a photo during the next meeting time slot as most (if not all) people will be present. The photo date itself will be later so everybody can uniformly wear a council shirt. We might take an additional picture with present voluntary members.
Meeting Time Slot
The doodle for the next meeting time slot will be published after the meeting. People have 2 days to fill it out so the next meeting can already take place next week.
