We’ve all been there: you want to log in to a platform at university, but the password you’ve entered is wrong. Or you don’t even know which password to use. Unfortunately, there is not the one central account at university that is used for all systems; instead, many institutions use their own systems to manage their students.
To save you the confusion, we have put together a small overview of the accounts and the associated services here.
Tip: Use a password manager! This will save you a lot of confusion and is is a best-practice in terms of security anyway.
UdS or Student ID
- Identifier: something along name00001 or s8name (for students starting before 2020)
- Password: will be communicated after enrolment by IT account notification letter and can be (re)set here
You will be assigned this account at the very beginning when you enrol by IT account notification letter. You can use it for various services throughout the university. Before you can use the ID, you must first set your initial password using the master password. Among others, these following services are then available,:
- Your student mailbox
[identifier]@stud.uni-saarland.de
- The course catalogue and exam registration in LSF/HISPOS
- The SIM portal for downloading study certificates and for re-registration
- The student SIM is not the applicant SIM!
- Wi-Fi and VPN
- For the Wi-Fi, use the login

Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC) Account
- Username: identical to the UdS ID
- Password: Can be set or reset here
This account is used for various services in the Computer Science department. The account is created by SIC-IT for all new students of the computer science degree programs at the beginning of their studies. The account is used for the following systems, among others:
- The seminar system in which you can apply for seminar places at the start of the semester
- GitLab of the department
- Free Nextcloud for students
- Computers in the computer room of building E2.1 (Bioinformatics)
Tip: Many students forget the email they received for this account at the beginning of their studies and later wonder what password they used to log in. It’s best to keep an eye on your account and not forget it. You will need it sooner or later for the seminar system 🙂
Course Management System (CMS)
CMS is a web application for managing lecture content that is used by many chairs in computer science. Each CMS has its own accounts and therefore you have to register individually in each CMS.
- Username & password: chosen by yourself during registration
For example, the following CMS are the three largest in our department:
- cms.sic.saarland: The central CMS of the SIC. Almost all lectures in the subject area are listed here.
- cms.cispa.saarland: This is the CMS of CISPA, which hosts many of the cyber security lectures.
- dcms.cs.uni-saarland.de: This is the Depend-CMS of the chair of Prof. Hermanns.
Student Printer / Students’ Account
- User name: identical to the UdS ID, i.e. name00001 or s8name
- Password: self-selected and can be reset here
- Create account
This account is managed by the students’ council (that’s us!). Currently we only use it for the student printer. Other services may be added in the future.
Language Center (SZSB)
- Username: a number
- Password: chosen by yourself
This account is used to register for language courses and to access course materials (SZSB Moodle).
More
We have by no means listed all the possible accounts that you may accumulate, but these should at least covert the most important ones. In the course of your studies, you may also notice that for example the gym on campus or the university library again have their own independent systems.
