Students’ representative council elections

Dear students of the computer science study programmes!

From now on until Friday you have the opportunity to elect your new students’ representative council. Due to the circumstances this year’s election will be held online by the AStA, so participation from abroad is easily possible.

You can find the 15 candidates for the students’ council and their election profiles here:

Online Semester Events Survey

Dear students of the different CS study programmes!

Since we are facing a challenging semester due to Corona pandemic, many of our social events are not allowed by regulations. To let you have a joyful semester and to help you connect with your peers, we would like to offer alternative online events for the current semester. Thus, we need your help!

We invite you to share your online event ideas with us, which you would like your council to organize for you! Please feel free to submit your creative ideas with your explanations. You are also free to leave your contact mail (optional) for further communication regarding your idea.

Student Council Elections 2020

Dear Students of the different cs study programmes!

It is time for the Student Council Elections to choose the student representatives of your subject area! The student councils are a central element of student life on campus which improves study conditions, organize social events, represent the interests of the student body in different boards.

So if you would like to get involved, we would be happy to hear from you as a candidate. If you have further questions about the tasks in the student council, please feel free to contact us, either in our Discord or by mail.

Until the 9th of November (including), you can present yourself as a candidate for your subject area. You can find the application document and instructions on the AStA website.

Master Students Orientation Document

Dear Master Students,

We warmly welcome you to Saarland University and Saarbrücken. In the document attached, we would like to help your orientation to our university and adaptation to the city. Master StEP excitement is boiling up!

When – 22nd and 23rd October 12 noon to 3 pm
Where – Online! We will publish the youtube link here and through our channels at 11:50 am on the day of the event.
How – you can interact with us while the event is live via youtube chat or discord

Dedicated to 1st and 2nd semester Masters of Science in Computer Science (and related programs). There is information dedicated to international students who just arrived, are travelling soon or are looking for information before they plan.

There is no need for registration for the event. We will be live streaming the event on Youtube. The link to the event will be shared soon on our accounts.

Please also find the orientation document prepared by the council below to help you get started with your studies and to give you a brief overview of the Saarland University Campus.

Informatics Kick-Off Highlights

The Informatics Kick-Off has ended, but the record is online on Youtube.
Highlights from the meeting:

  • Summer Term 2020 courses will start on May 4 and end on July 17
  • Winter Term 2020/21 courses will start on November 1
  • All courses will be carried out online (different teaching styles and platforms)
  • Full range of courses (no reduction)
  • Physical presence o the campus is not required prior to exams, online participation is enabled through the term
  • Exam dates arranged in four phases:
    • July 20 – Aug. 7: End of term exams for the summer term
    • Sep. 21 – Oct 9: Re-exam for the summer term excluding basic courses
    • Oct. 12 – Oct.16: Re-exam for the summer term basic courses (to avoid conflicts with the Sopra)
    • Oct. 19 – Oct. 30: Re-exams for the winter term

Virtual Informatics Kick-Off

On Monday, April 27 at 15:00 there will be a virtual Informatics Kick-Off for the summer term (one week in advance of the start of term, to give you more time for your decisions).

As usual, the event will give news on the informatics department, and an overview of the courses offered. In addition, there will be information regarding online teaching and exams.

The Kick-Off will take place online. The lecturers will be in a zoom meeting, which for the students will be streamed to YouTube:

There will also be the possibility to ask questions in the YouTube chat. We will clarify the modalities at the beginning of the Kick-Off.
