We are happy to announce that our breakfast is back in the new year. As always, we have a variety of food to offer. Oh, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
When? 8th February from 9:30am Where? E1.3 room 109 (students council room)
After the long Corona break, we are happy to finally be able to organise the (hopefully from now on) annual Winter Party again.
It will take place on Tuesday, December 06, from 10 am in our student council rooms (above the iCoffee). There will be mulled wine, children’s punch, hot cocoa, waffles and crêpes. Since Christmas is just around the corner both rooms will be decorated accordingly (rumour has it that you can even eat the decorations). We cordially invite you to sit down in our rooms to forget a little about the upcoming mid-term exams and exercise sheets.
Of course, all this is 100% free of charge for you, as always, but we are happy to accept a donation to the Tafel Saarbrücken (food bank) or the Kältebus Saarbrücken (shelter for homeless people). We would like to support them in their work assisting people in need.
The event is kindly sponsored by ELO Digital Office. If you are also a nerd at heart, take a look at www.nerdy-at-heart.com.
Dear students of the computer science study programmes!
From now on until Friday (10pm CET) you have the opportunity to elect your new students’ representative council. This year’s election will be again held online, so participation is easily possible.
You can find the 20 candidates for the students’ council and their motivation profiles here:
The ballot count will take place on December 5th at 7:00 pm publicly via Microsoft Teams. Use the following join code (Teams > Join a team): pqt2z13
In case of problems please contact the AStA student council department at fachschaften@asta.uni-saarland.de . If you have any further questions, please contact us or the student council department at the AStA.
Professor Maggio and Professor Valera were called to other universities.
To keep them, their research and their lectures here at the university, we as the students council organise a torch run and invite you all to join us.
The torch run starts on Wednesday November 30 at 4pm at the Platz der Informatik in front of building E1 3 to convince them to remain at our university.
With December coming right up, some of you may already be eager to open their advent calendars. For those of you who may not have an advent calendar, or are up to some challenge for the december month, we would like to introduce to you: “Advent of Code”
Advent of Code (AoC) is an advent calendar consisting of small programming puzzles and challenges that you can solve in any programming language you would like. Each day you are presented with a small puzzle consisting of two parts, allowing you to earn up to 2 stars for each day. Don’t worry if you don’t have much or any previous experience in competitive programming or coding challenges in general. The puzzles are built in a way that most of them can be solved simply by critical and logical thinking. Additionally all puzzles are embedded in a cute little backstory (As opposed to the dark backstory of Dieter Schlau for everyone who visited a previous iteration of Competitive Programming) to motivate you to help Santa Claus save Christmas, so really in the end you don’t only do the challenges to obtain stars but also you do it for the plot.
While you do not need to be an exemplary student of AlgoDat or Competitive Programming to take part in AoC, for those of you that are into that, there of course also is a competitive aspect to the whole deal. The first 100 persons that finish a puzzle can earn points on the global leaderboard. Additionally we as the Students’ Council have setup a private leaderboard you can join to see how you rank against other students at SIC. However, be aware that the puzzles always release at 6:00 AM Saarbrücken Time, so getting on the leaderboard may only really be a matter of being dedicated to get up early in addition to being fast.
We believe that Advent of Code is a great opportunity for all students to challenge themselves on different problems and can vastly help you to improve your programming skills and is a perfect addition for anyone taking Programming I or really, any student of SIC.
Advent of Code starts at December 1st and ends on December 25th. For more information visit the AoC’s website at: https://adventofcode.com/
Important Disclaimer: Advent of Code is in no way hosted or organized by the Students’ Council. We just really like it and want to promote it to our students!

We know the Software Engineering Lab (SEL) is always a rough time for our students. To lighten up the mood, on this Friday the 09.09 after the SEL exam we will host a gamenight at the MMCI (E1.7). If you want, feel free to bring one of your favorite games with you. There will be snacks and drinks, also we will order food at 8 pm.
Use this chance to meet some of your fellow students 😉
Here are the key information: When? Friday the 09.09 at 6pm Where? MMCI E1.7
After two years it’s finally back: The joint Summer-BBQ of the Students’ Council for Computer Science and Mathematic returns. ON July 7th starting from 10am, you can find us on the outside area between GHH and E2.5.
As also in the past we will set up a Schwenker to offer various items at small prices. Of course, there will also have vegetarian and vegan options available. The Math Council will be readily available at the to offer drinks (Softdrinks & Beer ) at fair prices.
Additionally we are happy to once again offer a free buffet of cake and salads. For cake the FdSI has provided us with a generous donation. Many thanks from us for that! To offer a wide range of salads, we require your help! So if you know a unique recipe that you want to share and have some time to prepare a salad, just fill out following form: https://fsr.saarland/salad . As a reward, you will receive a voucher for a free drink and one item from the Schwenker.
We are eager to see lots of you and hope to have a blast together with you while enjoying great weather, music and a good vibe.
We are happy to announce that we are finally bringing back our past gamenights. That is, next Friday May 27th, at MMCI building (E1.7), we will host our long awaited gamenight starting at 6pm. We have rented the entire ground floor as our event venue.
We listened to your feedback, so the rooms for Smash and board games are acoustically separated. We have 2 rooms for Super Smash Ultimate, including a tournament, and 4 rooms for board games, including 2 small ones for Werewolf and such. Board games will be available, but you are of course welcome to bring your own games.
There will be snacks and drinks, plus pizza will be ordered during the evening.
If you want to participate in the tournament, click the button at the end of the post to register. The tournament will be limited to 32 students so we can manage to fit it all on the same night. There will also be an entry fee of 5€ for the smash tournament, which will be used to fund the prizes for the top 3 players. The exact format (whether bo3 or bo1) will be presented in the evening depending on the number of participants. If you want to play with a Gamecube controller, you are welcome to bring your own; a docking station is available.
Since we do not require masks, you will need to show a recent (same day) Corona test upon entry. For example, you can be tested free of charge at the test center on campus before noon. You can book an appointment here.
